Now it's no surprise that there are theories connecting other Broadway shows, but today we will be tackling a very unknown one: are Evan Hansen and Evan Goldman the same person?
For those unfamiliar to the show 13 is an original musical with music and lyrics by Jason Robert Brown and book by Dan Elish and Robert Horn.Following a move from New York City to small-town Indiana, young Evan Goldman grapples with his parents' divorce, prepares for his impending Bar Mitzvah, and navigates the complicated social circles of a new school. 13 is the only Broadway musical ever with a cast and band entirely made of teenagers. It originally began previews on September 16, 2008 and officially opened on October 5, 2008 at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
So lets jump in to facts. First off is the name difference. Goldman and Hansen are obviously different. But in 13! and Dear Evan Hansen, Evan's father is gone. After the events of 13! it is not unfair to say that Evan's mom changed her last name back to her maiden name, Hansen. In Fact, Looking more into Evan's mom, In 13! they moved away to be near Evan's Aunt. Could this be the aunt who knew Jared Klienman. AKA Evan's family friend?
Next, let's examine Evan's severe social anxiety. Now in 13! Evan just want's to be cool, so he goes out to achieve his goal, which eventually blows up in his face. Is it because of this large failure that Evan no longer has the confidence to talk to anyone at all, for fear of repeating the past? it could very well be.
And now our final pieces of evidence, the final performances of 13! that were headed by the original writers and directors ended in 2011. Dear Evan Hansen began on Broadway in 2016. So by the math that makes it 5 years later, and five years later Evan Would be 18. Which is how old he is at the end of Dear Evan Hansen.
(one final piece of evidence at the end of every production of 13! Evan wore a blue and white shirt. could this evolve into his blue polo?)
Is it not unfair to say that because of all this evidence these could be the same people? well that theory is just for the Broadway alumn.
