In the last few years, Broadway musicals have become a big interest in the world. More and more people are finding a connection with the Broadway community, giving knew ideas to writers, composers, and directors. So we are here to count down the top 5 Broadway shows of 2017

5. Waitress

Based on the 2007 film by the late Adrienne Shelly, Waitress follows Jenna, a pregnant waitress in the south trapped in an abusive marriage and looking for a happy ending. She finds relief—and potentially that happy ending—by making creatively titled pies and forming a romance with an unlikely newcomer. It became a big hit with fans, and is recently having Grammy winner Jason Mraz join the cast.

4. SpongeBob Squarepants

Based on the hit cartoon series, SpongeBob Squarepants the musical follows SpongeBob, Patrick, Sandy, and the rest of Bikini Bottom as their undersea home is facing entire annihilation. But just as all hope seems lost, a very unexpected hero rises. SpongeBob Squarepants. Originated in Chicago, and just recently moving into the palace theatre and starting previews, It has already taken us by storm, already expecting a Tony for itself.

3. Anastasia

Inspired by the beloved films, Anastasia transports us from the twilight of the Russian Empire to the euphoria of Paris in the 1920s, as a brave young woman sets out to discover the mystery of her past. Pursued by a ruthless Soviet officer determined to silence her, Anya enlists the aid of a dashing conman and a lovable ex-aristocrat. Together, they embark on an epic adventure to help her find home, love, and family. Although it may not be the most appreciated on our list, it has already gained a very good name for itself, looking for a Tony.

2. Hamilton

Hamilton is the story of the unlikely Founding Father determined to make his mark on the new nation as hungry and ambitious as he is. From bastard orphan to Washington's right-hand man, rebel to war hero, a loving husband caught in the country's first sex scandal, to the Treasury head who made an untrusting world believe in the American economy. George Washington, Eliza Hamilton, Thomas Jefferson and Hamilton's lifelong friend/foil Aaron Burr all make their mark in this astonishing new musical exploration of a political mastermind. Made by a Broadway mastermind, Hamilton has one 11 Tony's, a Grammy, and even a Pultzer prize.

Shooting all of it's cast to fame, Dear Evan Hansen has taken the nation by storm, winning Ben Platt the 2017 Tony award for best actor. Even though Ben Platt will be leaving the cast next Sunday the 19th, there still is a huge fan base surrounding the show.
